Following on from the success of Weirdub’s “Recreational” album, Green Queen Music are continuing the theme of polishing up and re-releasing choice musical gems that are currently unavailable in the market place.Luna Rossa is the original soundtrack to Antonio Capuano’s film of the same name.
The film, which was originally presented at the Venice Film Festival in 2001Composed primarily by Dr Cat & Polcari, Luna Rossa also boasts a fine collection of collaborations:
Raiz former vocalist and front man of Italian cult band Almamegretta.Soul diva Zstar adds her rich tones and vocal punch in a special guest appearance on ‘No pressure’.This release also features a number of remixes previously commissioned from other artists including one by Gaudi and another by Ashtech.Luna Rossa is a worldbeat album with a twist… Musically it’s a great candidate for re-release as it’s emotive and scenic qualities make it a timeless work.. it has, if anything, come of age and is almost more ‘now’ than it was ‘then’…..

A Jamaican in Cairo is the debut album from Diaspora. It is an impressive beginning and certainly not a debut in the traditional sense as all the artists involved are already well established in their respective fields. It is a mature work that truly reflects the deep pool of experience and talent from whence it has come.
A Jamaican in Cairo is an elegant work with an authenticity that shows both respect for tradition and for innovation. The sound is fresh and yet at the same time so well blended that it seems to have always been there. Arabic strings snake their way around Kette drum as the Nyahbinghi rhythms give new life to seductive Arabic scales. Reggae skanking and traditional brass fills are transported to the Nile delta on the currents of rippling Darbouka… All the while haunting vocals from east and west tell tales of roots and migration. The pedigree of the musicians involved in this album is impressive and their individual versatility and sensitivity to stylistic nuance is what makes this very particular fusion of styles so successful.
